In poker, players make bets using chips. The number of chips can vary, but a minimum of 200 chips is required for games with more than seven players. The lowest-value chip is a white one, while a red one is worth five whites. The next highest-valued chip is a blue one, which is worth ten or twenty or 25 whites. Then there are dark-colored chips, which are worth two, four, or five reds. Each player “buys in” to a game by purchasing chips. Usually, everyone buys in at the same price.

These include games such as Straight Poker, Five-Card Monte, Seven-Card Stud, Lowball, Omaha, and Pineapple. You should also try your hand at games with different rules, such as Cincinnati and Dr. Pepper, to get a better idea of which strategies work best for you. Once you’ve mastered all of the basic poker rules, you’ll be able to win more often by using your newfound knowledge of the game.

It’s also important to remember that when you’re playing poker, you’re not the only person with bad hands. Don’t complain to your opponents or blame the dealer when you’re in a bad spot. Not only does it make everyone uncomfortable, but it also spoils the fun at the table. Also, don’t make fun of yourself if you’re making a mistake. The last thing you want is someone to be laughing at your mistakes, which will make the game worse for everyone.
