What Is a Slot?

A slot is a narrow opening in something that allows it to fit into another item. For example, a coin slot is the space where coins can be placed to make a machine work. You can also use the word to refer to a position in a sequence or schedule. For example, you might be assigned a particular time slot to attend meetings or work on a project.

In hockey, the term “slot” refers to the area of the ice where wingers and centers have the best chance of scoring without being deflected. The low slot is particularly important because it gives players a direct view of the net and makes it easy to aim for a wrist shot. The higher the slot, the more difficult it is for defenders to defend.

When you plan your weekend ahead of time, you have a better chance of achieving everything on your to-do list. Decide during the week exactly what it is you’re aiming to do and jot it down so you know what your priorities are going into the weekend. This doesn’t mean you can’t allow for some spontaneity or last minute plans, but it’s always good to have a clear idea of what you want to do with your time.
