The Basics of Poker

Poker

Poker is a card game with several rules. The basic rules are that the player with the highest hand wins. The dealer is the person responsible for shuffling the deck and dealing cards to the other players. The dealer can be a player or a non-player. Each player takes turns being the dealer. The dealer receives a dealer chip, which he or she passes on after each round. Some betting rules vary depending on which dealer is in the game.

There are three different types of hands in poker. One pair consists of two cards of the same rank plus a fifth card of different rank. Another pair consists of one pair and three cards of the same rank. A no-pair hand contains “nothing”. It is the lowest hand when no-one has a pair. If there are more than two players with a high hand of the same rank, the high card is used to break the tie.

Texas Hold’Em is the most common type of poker. During a round, each player is dealt two cards. A player can bet an ante (a small amount), fold, check, or raise.
